WEEKEND PASTORAL LETTER 26 December 2021
Dear Brethren,
MEDITATION
14 Therefore He says:“Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.”
15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,
16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
Ephesians 5:14-16
OBSERVATION AND INTERPRETATION
1. “Awake from sleep”
a) To be asleep is like being dead
i) One is unconscious
ii) One is unresponsive
b) Spiritually asleep
i) This is like being spiritually dead
ii) One is not able to respond to God properly
2. Our part
a) To arise from our sleep
b) To turn to the Lord
c) To be restored to the Lord
3. The Lord’s Part
a) He will cause us to awaken from spiritual slumber
b) He will give light
4. The Life we must live after we come alive to God
a) We must walk circumspectly
i) Circumspectly means “carefully”
ii) We cannot afford to live carelessly
b) Contrast to be noted
i) We cannot walk as fools
ii) We must learn to walk in wisdom
5. Time is most precious
a) We must “redeem” the time
b) Time must not be wasted
c) The days are indeed evil!
APPLICATION TO LIFE AND MINISTRY
1. Let us check how we are living as we end 2021
a) Are we spiritually alive?
b) Are we walking carefully?
c) Are we using our time wisely?
2. Let us pray for a greater sense of commitment to serve the Lord in 2022
a) Let us repent of our sins of 2021
b) Let us begin 2022 on a strong note
3. Let us pray for greater fruitfulness in the New Year!
